AI IN LOGISTICS: Are you keeping up with the market?

More and more logistics players are bringing AI onboard. Yet many are still in pilot phase, with value to be found in bringing it fully into operations. Discover the insights to learn how.

THE AI GAP IS WIDENING BETWEEN THOSE WHO EXPERIMENT, AND THOSE WHO IMPLEMENT. AND IT’S ACCELERATING.

The 2026 AI Report shares insights, statistics and outcomes to map out an actionable AI roadmap ahead.

WHAT THE SURVEY REVEALS

AI is here to stay, but the speed at which it’s impacting logistics still seems uncertain. Here are some key takeaways:

  • Only 10% of LSPs have adopted AI into core operations at scale
  • Only 13% show measurable value in embedding AI into operations.
  • 40% of LSPs and Shippers state unclear ROI
  • Only 30% of LSPs expect AI headcount reductions
  • 56% of providers are still only testing or exploring AI

In short, AI adoption has been slower than expected.

But those who are implementing it beyond the pilot phase are already pulling ahead.

This survey reveals how logistics leaders view AI, and how their attitudes in using it affect adoption.

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN INSIDE THE 2026 BCG x ALPEGA AI REPORT

Up-to-the-minute insights that might surprise you:

AI ADOPTION IS LOW

This varies between role, type and size of business. And Geography reveals key differences in adoption rates.

COST AND EFFICIENCY DRIVE EVERYTHING

For now, AI seems to be viewed as a productivity tool, not a revenue or service differentiation engine.

THE REAL BARRIERS

A crucial finding challenges that the primary obstacles to AI scaling are tech limitations, and cost.

WORKFORCE RESKILLING IS TAKING PRIORITY

The survey suggests a phased transformation: reskilling for AI in workflows in the near term.

INTEGRATION BEATS EXPERIMENTATION

Real value comes from embedding AI directly into systems where work happens.

METHODOLOGY

This industry-wide survey was compiled by Boston Consulting Group in partnership with Alpega. It combines more than 180 experts at both LSPs and shippers across Europe, North America, Asia, and the Middle East. Respondents at LSPs included 84 experts ranging from 3PLs to trucking, ocean, and air carriers operating at national, regional, and global scales. Respondents from shippers included 98 leaders of both smaller players with limited logistics spending and large multinationals that manage complex, multimodal logistics.
