THE CARRIER ALLOCATION ENGINE PUTS AN END TO TEDIOUS MANUAL PLANNING WORK

Carrier selection and allocation is a critical step in the transportation planning process. But keeping track of preferred logistics providers and the requirements of each shipment can be a challenge for supply chain managers. If you add to that multiple lanes, different shipment sizes, weights and volumes, as well as market disruptions, the task become even more complicated and time-consuming.

Alpega’s Carrier Allocation Engine is the result of years of data gathering and discussions with different stakeholders on the main challenges of carrier allocation. This unique tool automates the allocation of your shipments to your carriers’ network, taking into account the existing partnerships and business rules that matter most to you.

How does the engine work?

Based on a range of user-established decision criteria, such as preferred carrier ranking, carrier capacityor predefined volumes contracted, the engine evaluates the existing options and allocates your shipments to the right carrier.

The solution is can be fine-tuned to your needs, meaning you can select different preferred selection criteria for each of your lanes, transportation types, products…and adapt your preferences as you go.

Alpega’s engine collects and provides historical data on the previous allocations, facilitating long-term planning while keeping in mind current and future requirements.

Currently, the Carrier Allocation Engine supports four capabilities to assign the orders:

  • Carrier ranking: preferred carriers based on order rejection or expiration
  • Multiple requests: Simultaneous requests are sent to multiple carriers and the order is allocated to the first carrier accepting it
  • Capacity: allocation based on predefined commitments and volumes agreed upon with the carriers as well as their remaining capacity
  • Spot bidding: a bid request is launched to your carrier network, and the system automatically awards the bid based on predefined business rules
